(D) Sam Wercinski
Sam Wercinski, Forward Moving Leadership
Sam Wercinski is running for Secretary of State to protect Arizona and to allow families and businesses to thrive. As a Veteran, a business owner and a trusted member of Governor Napolitano’s cabinet, he provided vision and leadership that made state government work for our citizens. Sam wants to ensure voters are respected, our rights protected and elections are honest and fair. Working with the Governor and AG’s offices, Sam also wants to make it easier to conduct business and protect consumers. He has a proven record of doing this as AZ’s Real Estate Commissioner and asks for your support for the opportunity to serve Arizona as Secretary of State.
Service to Arizona
In January 2007, Sam became Arizona’s Real Estate Commissioner, charged with protecting the public through oversight of the real estate industry. He took this leadership role after the housing crisis occurred and foreclosures began to rise.
Sam was able to help many Arizona citizens with their homes and bring white collar criminals to justice. He also advised the Governor on economic development and sustainable growth policy. As trustee for two state Recovery Funds, Sam was able to provide financial relief to consumers who were injured due to an illegal action by an agent.
His motto of “Promoting Mutual Respect” created a new culture of cooperation between members of the public, the industry, and his office. Sam succeeded in reducing unnecessary regulation of good practitioners and redirected resources to focus on those harming consumers. He stressed education as the best means to prevent harm and nurtured strong partnerships with communities and leaders across Arizona that continues today.
Service to our Nation as a Veteran
Sam graduated from the United States Air Force Academy in 1984 and was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant. In 1985, after training as an intelligence officer, Sam was stationed at Luke Air Force Base in Glendale, Arizona. While serving, he distinguished himself by receiving the Air Force’s Commendation Medal for Meritorious Service and the “Outstanding Young Men of America” award. Sam comes from a family of military service; his father and two brothers are Air Force veterans too. Sam completed his service honorably as a Captain and then went on to earn a master’s degree from Thunderbird School of Global Management in Glendale, Arizona.
Service with Nonprofits
Sam provides leadership to many nonprofits. He supports the effort to properly recognize Viet Nam Veteran, Huskie Y.B.Ten, with the Congressional Medal of Honor for his heroic and ultimate act of sacrifice to save his comrades. Sam has served Arizona on the boards of Southwest Center for HIV/AIDS and Habitat for Humanity Central Arizona. He also served on the IRC Micro Enterprise Loan Committee, providing loans to new small business owners in Arizona.
Service through Public-Private Partnerships
Prior to being Arizona’s Real Estate Commissioner, Sam owned a real estate firm in Arizona. In January 2009, Sam re-entered the private sector, focused on developing partnerships that promote smart, sustainable growth and industry in Arizona. In this new venture, Sam continued to visit Arizona communities and meet with local leaders just as he did while serving as Arizona’s Real Estate Commissioner. During these visits, Sam was encouraged to remain involved in state policy making and to consider seeking state office. In June 2009, Sam filed as a candidate for Secretary of State for the 2010 election.
Sam is a “Forward Moving Leader”. His perspective is neither “left or right’ but one of forward vision and direction. He believes respectful dialog must be brought back into our policy making debate so that practical solutions to our challenges can be advanced. Sam is ready to serve ALL of Arizona.
